Besides Horizon 22, there are several viewing platforms in London, such as the Garden at 120 and the substantially more famous Sky Garden and Shard.

Horizon 22 emerged in September 2023 as a new contender in the London viewing platform race and is now London’s highest-free viewing platform.

The tallest building in London goes to The Shard, which you can see opposite, although the viewing platform inside Bishopsgate is higher.

The platform is on the 58th floor of the City of London‘s tallest building, 22 Bishopsgate, and is, at the time of writing, also Europe’s highest free viewing platform.

Given its 245-meter elevation and 300-degree view of the city, Horizon 22 offers a great view of London.

However, Horizon 22 isn’t our favourite viewing platform in London.

That title goes to the Garden at 120.

H22 lacks some character, possibly because there’s not much in it other than a cafe and a lot of glass.

We’re not exactly sure what it should have inside, but there’s not a flash of greenery to be seen anywhere, which the Garden at 120 and Sky Garden have in abundance.

Planning Your Visit

Visiting the viewing platform is totally free.

You can try to get in by turning up at Bishopsgate, but it gets busy, so we recommend booking.

Head to the Horizon 22 website to book your free tickets.

On the website, you’ll find tickets for standard visits, groups (15+) and Special Assistance.

The latter gives away that H22 is fully wheelchair accessible.

When you enter the building, you undergo a security check and have your belongings scanned by an X-ray machine, so be prepared for that minor inconvenience.

Once you’re through, you’ll get in the lift and head up to the platform.

Inside, you’ll find the 300-degree view, a cafe and toilets.

In H22’s defence, you can see a lot of London’s greatest landmarks, such as The Shard, St Paul’s, Bank, and Barbican, to name a few.

Is Horizon 22 worth visiting?

There are several free viewing platforms in London, and H22 is the least interesting of the bunch. We recommend visiting the Garden at 120 or Sky Garden, but if you can’t get in either of them, go for Horizon 22.
